Ohhhh 2020… it’s been a year. Certainly, one that none of us were planning for. I know for me, it can be easy to fall into a negative mindset if I’m consuming a lot of information in the news and social media… there have definitely been a lot of demoralizing things happening this year including the virus-that-shall-not-be-named.
I in no way want to downplay the year we have all been through, or pretend it hasn’t been hard - it definitely has been. We have been dealing with a worldwide pandemic, after all. BUT at the same time - there has also still been good this year. SO much good! 2020 has not been a waste. It has been a year of learning and growth for most of us, though probably in ways we hadn’t imagined or planned for.
Something I like to do at the end of December is to reflect back on the previous year. Have I met my goals (if I set them)? What were some highs and lows? What did I learn? What can I do better? Reflecting back on the year helps me create new goals for the upcoming year, and also helps remind me of all that I’ve accomplished. As I reflect back on my 2020 year in business, I thought I would share some highlights with you all. If you are interested, keep reading!
2020 BUSINESS HIGHLIGHTS
Being able to photograph so many friends, family, and new clients! It truly warms my heart and is such a joy to capture these important moments in your lives. From maternity photos, to baby showers, anniversary sessions, family sessions, and everything in between! These are photos that you and your families will cherish for years to come - and I definitely don’t take that lightly. Also - a friendly reminder to PRINT YOUR PHOTOS! :)
I launched my website, and started this blog! It was a big goal of mine to start both of these this year- and although my blog is still in the early stages, I am excited to have it up. I enjoy writing (in small doses) and this is a great platform to share recent sessions, personal blogs, and more with you guys. This is an area I plan to work on more in 2021, so stay tuned!
I started shooting weddings! Yes, during a pandemic - LOL. (Masks were worn + safety precautions followed, of course) I love photographing couples and have felt really drawn to wedding photography ever since planning my own wedding. I’ve had the opportunity to second shoot (assist the lead photographer) a few weddings this year, and it has been SUCH a fun experience! This was a huge goal of mine for 2020, and I plan to continue this next year.
I continued to invest in photography education and quality gear for my business, and put more time into my business this year. I am so thankful for all of the amazing resources out there to learn and grow my photography business. I am constantly learning, and am thankful to have access to amazing educators like Amy & Jordan, and Katelyn James to learn from. If you are new to photography or looking to expand your skillset, I definitely recommend their courses! Another thing I did this year was to invest a lot more time into my business- something I am really proud of, as I am currently also working a full-time job as well! Photography is such a fun and creative outlet though that it honestly doesn’t feel like “work” most of the time, so I’m very grateful.
Fell in love with branding photography. This is also a new service I started offering this year, and I am absolutely loving it. Helping small business owners bring clarity to their brand through photos that are personalized to them, brings me such joy. A planner at heart, I love working with clients to craft the perfect session for their business and goals. Fun fact - I actually went to college for graphic design, so I have experience with branding and love tying it together with photography!
Connected with more of YOU! Whether it was through Instagram, Facebook, my website, or referrals - I LOVE connecting with y’all! I want to thank you all for following along with me, and supporting my business! It truly means the world to me.
And there you have it… some of my top business highlights for 2020! Although it was a hard year, and I definitely didn’t meet all of my goals - there was still a lot of good that happened this year, and will continue in 2021! I am proud of myself for what I have been able to accomplish. I really encourage you to reflect back on the year and try and find the good - I hope it lifts your spirits like it did mine. Wishing you all a wonderful and abundant 2021!
